The family of Til Kumari Dhakal was performing ritual deathanniversary puja at the time of the April earthquake. "We could not even complete our ritual process, the ground started shaking and we managed to escape to the safer place. Our house collapsed. We lost everything – our cattle buried under the debris," Til Kumari recalled the day of the earthquake. Since then, a 72 years old single women Til Kumari and her family members is having their hard time in the temporary shed even in the shivering cold, hot summer and stormy weather.
Til Kumari is desperately waiting for a day to shift in her new home for better living which under construction. She said, "I wish I could immediately shelter myself in my new home, it's too cold in the temporary shed. But I know it is not really possible in the short time."
The family used the CGI sheet and timbers from the debris and managed to build temporary shed to hide themselves during the night. "It was not possible to take the grains out of the debris, we had to rely on the relief distributed by different organizations and the government," Til Kumari said.
The family has received the first installment of the financialgrant from Lumanti/CordAid and have started constructing their house. Til Kumari added, "My son and daughter-in-law is putting their hard effort to complete our house and I am contributing for household jobs and caring her grandchildren as they are more engaged for building our home." She further added, "I have heard that government has announced financial grant amounting to NRs 300000 for the earthquake victim. We have received the first instalment from Lumanti and expecting the next instalment as early as possible."
