Lumanti hosts ACHR secretariat office
The Secretariat office of the Asian Coalition for Housing Rights (ACHR) network has been formally handed over to Lumanti Support Group for Shelter in Kathmandu, Nepal from Thailand during the Regional Meeting of the ACHR network members held in Kathmandu, Nepal from 27th to 29th January, 2023. This time, the regional meeting was hosted physically after 3 years by Lumanti Support Group for Shelter. During the hand over event, Secretary General of ACHR, Thailand Ms. Somsook Boonyabancha formally handed over the ACHR Secretariat official to Ms. Lajana Manandhar, the Executive Director of Lumanti Support Group for Shelter.
The ACHR is regional network of grassroots community organizations, NGO's and professionals actively involved with urban poor development processes in Asian cities. ACHR has been hosting regional meeting every year as a platform to share and discuss on alternative model of urban development based on Asian realities and experience.
During the regional meeting in Kathmandu, the major focus of first day was on 5-Model cities project funded by ACHR and SELAVIP. Similarly, the second day was a joint venture with International Society for Urban Health (ISUH) where 9 bright spot projects were presented by 9 different countries. On the final day of the regional meeting, India and Srilanka presented about the good practices on collective housing from their country followed by the discussion about the next phase of collective housing project with Urbamonde team.
As the pre-event, an interaction program with Cooperative women groups was held on 26th January and as post-event, there was one day site visit at Kalaiya Sub-municipality on 1st February.
