Organic Farming Training held in Kathmandu
5 days long training on organic farming techniques was conducted in Kathmandu from April 17-21, 2016 to provide skill and knowledge on techniques of organic farming to some of the beneficiaries involved in agriculture. Total of 19 participants (17 female and 2 male) from 10 communities from Kathmandu and Lalitpur were provided a training. The main objective of the training was to encourage the trainees to improve their agriculture yield by giving them skill, knowledge and capacity on entrepreneurship development.
During the training an expert from Regional Agriculture Service Directorate Mr. Buddhi Prasad Shrestha explained the participants on the need and importance of organic farming along with field visit at professional organic farms. Different methods like lecture, multimedia presentation,group works, participatory games, guest lecture, practical sessions, field visit and interaction with professional farmers were used in the training to explain different topics to the participants.
The participants also visited two different organic farms in Tokha namely DL Organic Farm and Laxmi Integrated Farm to gain the first hand experience on challenges and opportunities of organic farming and animal husbandry at professional level.
The training was organized by Community Women Forum with support from Lumanti Support Group for Shelter.
